Mónica Herrero Representaciones y Servicios Editoriales is a literary agency that started in 2005 and is focused mainly on sales of translation rights between Brazil and the Spanish speaking world, as well as rights clearance and providing solutions to authors’s rights issues.
Mónica Herrero works in the book industry since 1993. She has covered different areas, from content edition to authors’s rights: reading reports, organizing books contents, copy desk, translating. In 1999, she started acting as literary agent, at Guillermo Schavelzon literary agency, where she worked until 2005 directing the Foreign Rights Department. While offering author’s rights worldwide, she attended international book fairs, negotiated publishing and subsidiary rights agreements, such as translation rights, dramatic representation and cinematographic options and contracts. She has also taught at high level institutions. At present, she lectures on Spanish language at the career of English translator in the Instituto de Enseñanza Superior en Lenguas Vivas “Juan R. Fernández”.
Mónica Herrero studied at St Catherine’s School, where she attended primary and secondary school, became a Bachiller Pedagógico, and got the following diplomas: First Certificate in English (Cambridge), Arels Exam, International Baccalaureate (Switzerland). In 1988 she graduated as Licenciada en Letras at the Facultad de Letras, Universidad de Buenos Aires and, in 2000, she obtained her Specialist Diploma in Comparative Education and Cultural Studies granted by the Institute of Education at the University of London. She speaks, writes, reads and understands very well English, Portuguese, French and Italian, and has an intermediate knowledge of German (Mittelstufe). She studied six years at the Aliance Française of Buenos Aires, where she then followed a two years specialization course in literature. She also finished her Portuguese studies at the Centro de Estudos Brasileiros in Buenos Aires. For four years, she took private lessons of German, and she has studied Italian for many years. At present she is finishing a Master in Intellectual Property at the Universidad Austral in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
